This time of the year is busy with taking observations and measurements. We measured and recorded staple length, face cover, dust penetration, fleecerot, wool character and wool colour of the whole Autumn 2022 drop. Whilst this takes time, we get a good chance to have a close look at each individual and get a feel for family group performance. These visual observations are added to our data bank, together with OFDA fleece measurements also taken this month prior to shearing.
We took the time to head to the SA Stud Merino Expo at Burra. A good chance to have a look around and speak with growers and industry representatives.
